Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean Casserole

Green bean casserole is a classic dish, especially popular during the holiday season. Here's a simple recipe to create this comforting and flavorful side dish:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces (you can also use 2 cans of green beans, drained)

  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup crispy fried onions (French's Fried Onions work well)

  • Optional: Additional crispy fried onions for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. Then, drain and immediately place them in ice water to stop the cooking process. Skip this step if using canned green beans.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  4. Add the green beans to the mixture and stir until they are evenly coated.

  5. Fold in the crispy fried onions (reserve a handful for topping if desired).

  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the casserole is bubbly and heated through.

  8. If you saved some crispy fried onions, sprinkle them over the top of the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking for extra crunch.

  9. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

This creamy and crispy green bean casserole makes a great addition to any holiday meal! Adjust the seasoning or add your favorite herbs for additional flavor variations.
